About
Jako Olivier is a lecturer in Afrikaans linguistics at the School of Languages of the North-West University (Potchefstroom, South Africa). After some years teaching languages and information technology at secondary school level in South Africa and the UK, he joined the North-West University as lecturer in September 2010.
He recently completed his PhD in Education with a thesis entitled 'Accommodating and promoting multilingualism through blended learning'. In this study he explored how the subject IT could be taught multilingually through the use of blended learning (traditional and e-learning) resources.
His research interests include: Afrikaans grammar, sociolinguistics, language variation, language planning, language rights, blended learning, e-learning, multicultural education and subtitling.
He is member of the following academic organizations: Linguistics Society of Southern African (LSSA - member of executive committee as webmaster), South African Association of Language Teachers (SAALT), African Language Association of Southern Africa (ALASA), Southern African Applied Linguistics Association (SAALA) and African Association for Lexicography (AFRILEX).
